LLD is part of the winning team of the Edificio Moneda Bicentenario Contest.

In December 2012 we’ve received excellent news that the team with which we participated was the winner of the Edificio Moneda Bicentenario Contest. We are very happy to have shared this with you.
The team was led by the Chilean office Teodoro Fernández Arquitectos by the RSN Ltd. Holding. Since the beginning this group has worked with a clear goal: to design a building that guides the sustainability in Chile, being the first government building certified by LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design).
The building of 40.000 m² located in Teatinos (on the west of La Moneda) will be part of Barrio Cívico (Civic Neighborhood) of Santiago, previously designed by Vera. The traditional front is a starting point together with all the other imperatives of the contest, although the building hosts the highest of technologies in order to achieve the desired sustainability levels.
Out lighting proposal considers an installed power lower than 5 Watts per squared meter, high standards of visual comfort at the workplaces and, complying with the high levels of light required by Chilean electricity norm (NCH 4/2003) in each place. Complementing the above, a controlling light system that regulates the artificial light level according to the distribution of natural light shall be installed, which grants significant savings in power.
We’re on the construction stage which should conclude by August 2013.

“The Universe of India”, Centro Cultural Palácio da la Moneda

This Monday, March 12 at Centro Cultural La Moneda, the exhibit “The Universe of India” was opened. It gathers 150 pieces with over a thousand years old (III a.C to XX century) originally from Los Angeles County Museum, U.S.A.
LLD has been put in charge of the lighting that takes places on two rooms of the cultural center. The East room has the interior of temples as its museum concept. The warm lighting supports such concept and is displayed from within the windows , thus generating an introspective environment, reinforcing the idea of the temples interior space.
At the bottom, a series of niches welcome eleven structures of different representations of “Shiva”, the main hindu deity. These niches have been illuminated with attenuated halogen sources and different beams of lights, according to the sculptures’ size and location. The perimeter and central columns coincide with the room’s rails and they are illuminated in a zenith manner so that the light comes from within the columns. In the other columns a special grid has been designed, located inside each column that receives superimposed equipment with halogen sources.
The West room, opposite to the East one, has an outer concept with the representation of the exterior walls of the temples. The lighting is presented with colder colors compared to the previous room, representing the daylight and following the colors chosen to this room.
On the perimeter walls a border was designed where a LED ribbon has been installed, with the color temperature of 3200K, this linear lighting has generated unity among the four perimeter elements of the room and it supports the base illumination of the displayed pieces. Also, the pieces have been highlighted with projected lighting from within the rails, with attenuated halogen sources in various beams, and with temperature correction filter that allowed obtaining a colder temperature color. These corrections filters have also allowed an improved visualization of the watercolors, changing the attenuated halogen color (orange) to a neutral white that allowed a correct perception of the cold colors (green and blue), keeping a lighting level to a maximum of 75 lux according to the recommendations of the Los Angeles county museum curators.

LLD at the Professional Lighting Design Convention

pldc.jpg
In October of this year, the Professional Lighting Design Convention (PLDC) will take place in Madrid (www.PLD-C.com). This event is an integral piece to the cohesion and exchange within the discipline, as well as a privileged forum that includes lighting designers from around the world. LLD want to take full advantage of the convention, so they are taking guided efforts to attend the event as a complete team.
In addition to the obvious value of this trip, the LLD team will also be able to get in contact with their peers on the global level, sharing strategies, experiences and new projects. The team’s diversity will be enriched by this invaluable exchange through generating both new contacts in the field and new places for development. We are happy to share this information with you, and we hope that these benefits have an effect with all of those around us.
